ZECHEN ATELIER is a small handbag house. We make one collection, not four seasons of one, and we keep it to shapes we can defend. Twenty-four pieces at a time, sold only here.

What we make

Handbags, and only handbags. Totes that carry a laptop and still look composed. Shoulder bags cut to sit where a shoulder actually is. Evening pieces small enough to hold nothing but the essentials. Every bag is designed in New York and made in workshops in Florence and Porto that have produced leather goods for three generations.

What we care about

Shape before decoration. A bag should read clearly from across a room. We do not use hardware to do the work a good silhouette can do on its own.

Material that ages. Full-grain and vegetable-tanned leathers darken and soften where you handle them. We choose leathers that improve with use, not ones that only look right on the first day.

Fewer, better. We would rather you carried one bag for a decade than bought three you replace. Every piece carries a two-year warranty against defects in materials, stitching and hardware.

How we work

Two tanneries in Tuscany supply our leather. We buy in small lots, let the hides rest, and cut only what we can finish properly. Edges are painted by hand; hardware is solid brass rather than plated zinc; linings are cotton twill, not bonded leather that flakes after a season.

We photograph every bag ourselves, on a plain background, under one light. What you see is what arrives — no styling tricks, no borrowed props.

Buying from us

We sell directly and online only. No wholesale markup, no seasonal clearance, no showroom rent folded into the price. If a bag does not suit you, you have 30 days to send it back.
